I see a lot of people on social media claiming that 2016 was a bad year for them. I think they forget to look at the positives that came with 2016 and focus on the negatives. 2016 came with a lot of changes for me. I got engaged to my girlfriend in June and we bought a house in September. Buying an engagement ring and planning the proposal was pretty stressful. House shopping, and eventually signing all of the paperwork that followed, was even more stressful. I thought I would make a list of the positive things that occurred for me in 2016 and some things that I look forward to in 2017.
-As mentioned, I got engaged to my girlfriend of 2.5 years.
-Also previously mentioned, we bought a house together.
-I maxed out my Roth IRA for the first time.
-I have been saving almost 40% of my take home pay, based on my calculations.
-My fiancee and I went on a couple of weekend getaways.
-I was able to harvest a deer during deer season.
-My brother showed me how to butcher said deer. A task that I had previously never performed.
-I will marry my fiancee in September.
-She will move into our home shortly after.
-I plan to max out my Roth IRA again.
-I hope to pay off my one remaining student loan.
-I plan to get motivated and get some classes towards my RN degree completed.
-I plan to read more books.
-I hope to be more frugal this coming year. I have been slipping the last few months.
What were some positives for you in 2016 and what do you look forward to in 2017?
